In person corset making classes will be postponed until further notice, online Zoom classes will be available for the time being.
These classes will run on weekends for three hours Saturday afternoons for four weekends, with two additional “homework” classes av ailable per week if needed.
In this Beginners Corset Making Class, Dianna will take you through the basics of high quality corset materials, pattern manipulation, and construction of a single layer under the bust corset. At the end of this four week class, you will be able to confidently adjust corset patterns to fit, cut corset fabrics, size corset bones, attach bone caps, insert a corset busk, expertly bind edges, grommet and lace your corsets, and much more!
You will finish this class with a fully finished single layer, fully boned underbust corset, your adjusted patterns, and the knowledge and skill to create a basic corset!
This course is perfect for costumers, performers, students, and dressmakers who would like a better understanding of how to create a historical corset, and have the benefit of a corsetmaker with over 25 years of experience. Basic sewing experience is required to fully benefit from this class.
This class runs from 2pm-5pm EST for three weeks, with additional class times available if necessary. Homework will be required to be prepared for the next week.
You can purchase your corset making kits from Farthingales Corsetmaking Supplies, and once your class reservation is purchased, I will direct you to download your underbust corset patterns.
You will need to have
- Corset making kit – available at Farthingales (link available soon)
- Rulers
- Paper
- Scissors
- Tape
- Measuring tape
- Pliers
- Fabric Scissors
- Sewing machine
- Zipper foot for sewing machine
- Thread
- Patience
- A good sense of humour
You will have use of rulers, paper, in-house domestic sewing machines, thread, snips, seam rippers, grommet setter, bone tip tool, tin snips, and unlimited espresso and tea! You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine, and tools if you wish, but it is not necessary.
Teaching the class is Dianna DiNoble, the owner and designer of Starkers Corsetry. She has been creating and expertly fitting corsets for clients worldwide since 1992 from Toronto Ontario. Dianna’s expertise is in the perfect fit and comfort of a corset, from-scratch pattern drafting, and detailed finishings.
