February 18 2007 Book Lover's Ball
Unfortunately, we weren't able to make it to the show at Muzik, but the Book Lover's Ball on February 15th was a huge success!
Right after I snapped this picture, my camera unceremoniously informed me that the memory was full.
Fortunately, the event co-ordinator had a professional photographer there, and will be forwarding me more pictures.
It was split into book themes, and "8 of Canada's hottest designers" each had 4 outfits on the runway inspired by a particular book.
I was starting to worry because more and more lines came out and I didn't see my Zorro scene.
That's because STARKERS! WAS THE FINALE!!!!!! I was completely blown away and surprised, and the modern day Zorro theme worked beautifully!
More to come!

October 24 2006 Speaking at University of Toronto
I was invited to speak at a class at U of T on SM and theatre called Sexual Performance. Oh yes, there exists such a course. Now don't you wish you had taken a different route in your studies? ;)
It has been a few years since I taught or spoke at a class, but it seemed to go very well once I saw the students enthusiasm on the topic of corsetry and the history of corsets. Both male and female students were eager to try some samples on and the class watched in fascination as their bodiess and facial expressions transformed before them. Those who came in with the assumption that a corset was a symbol of oppression were able to se and feel first hand how powerful a garment is that can act on the body and psyche in such a dramatic way. Even the most skeptical of the class asked to be laced tighter after 30 minutes of corset wearing!
They were also surprised to learn that not all women wore corsets laced to extremes. Not everyone wore corsets. While as many women (yes, and men) wore corsets then, as they do bras now, the extremes are very similar to today's footwear in diversity. Some people wear comfortable sneakers, and some wear uncomfortable, pinchy pointy heels for fashion.
It was wonderful to see how these students who had never worn corsets before, interact with one another and try to move around as they are used to. They all found themselves very comfortable after about 30 minutes of getting used to it.
Although it is a credit course, anyone can audit or drop by this once a week class. Contact U of T for more info.

Review of our line from Toronto Star
Starkers! By Dianna DiNoble (www.starkers.com) delivered a far more subversive take on boudoir pieces that leaned heavily on fetish-wear and historical costuming. Impressively well-constructed corsets, hoop skirt under-layers and garters in black that could be easily incorporated into one of Floria Sigismondi's distinctive industrial-goth video projects (for Nine Inch Nails, David Bowie or Marilyn Manson). And, yet the garments were so sexy and flattering that they could also be embraced by mainstream consumers. Well done.
Another one from www.torontostreetfashion.com While quality and creativity were evident in all the shows, highlights certainly included Starkers! by Dianna DiNoble. Beautifully constructed steel boned corsets that Scarlet would have killed for, sculpted the models into sensuous hourglass shapes. The show-stopper was a nod to the Queen of Seduction herself – Marie Antoinette (we should all go to the movie in DiNoble's clothes!). A lavish display of bows, pearls and ruffled lace sleeves floated over a hoop cage. Get out the smelling salts ladies, these corsets will have you gasping for breath!
Hooray!
